Asian PET prices stable despite low market activity / Malaysia finalizes antidumping duty on China and Indonesia PET imports / Upstream PTA, MEG prices rise

Prices of Asian polyethylene Terephthalate remained stable in the week ending May 7. This was due to higher upstream feedstock prices. Sources attribute the lack of trading activity in China and Southeast Asia to the Labor Day holiday that began May 1. A Japanese trader stated that the market was not active as they had just returned from their long holiday. A Southeast Asian trader reported that domestic producers in Indonesia were heard to offer bottle-grade PET for more competitive prices this week. This could be due to increasing inventory pressure. Malaysia has finalized its antidumping duty on imports of PET from China and Indonesia, which range from 2.29% up to 37.44%, according to the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry.
