The seasonal slowdown in Europe has weighed on the marketAs
domestic demand was still low, the Turkish polystyrene industry fell in week
ending Dec. 21. The spot price of CFR Turkey expandable polystyrene grades
fell $50/mt compared to the previous week, at $1,490/mt. Export sales
slowing affected by the closure of facilities in Europe for Christmas and New
Year, limited domestic trading activity meant that there was not much foreign
sales. According to sources, demand from European customers had stopped
for the remainder of the year. Turkish purchases were restricted to pre-buying
activity because some anticipated that prices would rise in January due to
