The assessment rose from $36.33-41.50/mt to
$1,073-1,100/mt CFRUnv1/China on Sept. 5, due to rising oil prices and purified
terephthalic acids. The PTA futures traded on the
Zhengzhou Commodities Exchange (China) rose in the first two trading sessions.
In the second, the assessment rose to Yuan 3,744-4,000/mt and Yuan 5,754-6,000/mt
respectively for the January 2023 contract. This was an increase of $47.03-52.50/mt,
in dollar parity terms. According to market sources, the
increase was due to increased downstream polyester sales. In addition, there
was a shortage in PTA in China's domestic market. This is because PTA producers
have drastically reduced their operations due to adverse margins. On Sept. 5,
November Brent crude futures were valued at $95.52-100.50/b. This was $0.60/b
more than the previous September 5....
