The market for Asian naphtha was dominated
by bearish sentiment on Aug. 10, as a result of the weak outlook for
cracker-feed naphtha and global recessionary fears. Market participants also
anticipated that there would be little demand for petrochemicals until at least
November. The
paper market was also affected by a weaker structure on Aug. 10 as it remained
in a contango structure from late last week. Brokers pegged the August-September MOPJ Naphtha Swap lower at
minus $0.50-1.50/mt. This is lower than the $2-3/mt Asian close on Aug. 8. On Aug. 9, the Singapore market was closed due to the
