The European acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene market
continued to see muted demand in the week to Nov. 2. The European ABS market
saw a slowdown in October, as most market participants expected a slower month
than September. Public holidays in Europe
affected some activity on November 1. Market
participants were also waiting for the November settlement of upstream pricing. Butadiene, one of the ABS feedstocks was settled at Eur1,200-Eur1,240/mt
by an industry-settled contract price on October 21. This is a decrease of
Eur150-Eur175/mt over October. Despite the
low demand in Europe, European sellers still have limited export options due to
Europe's high production costs. One
European producer stated that "we cannot compete." The week saw increased competition from Asian imports on the
European market.
