- Markets remain quiet in US Gulf- US material remains
uncompetitive

In spite of thin liquidity, the US vinyl
acetate monomer and acetic acid markets remained stable for the week ending
February 16. Although supply fundamentals were
steady, buyers weren't keen to purchase spot volumes of acetic acid and VAM
because there were no viable outlets for US-produced materials. Upstream,
there was limited activity in the methanol market due to an industry event. Recent
evidence suggests that there has been a downward trend in bids and offers, with
them moving lower throughout the week. Sources say
this is partly due to lower downstream demand in the vinyl acetate monomer and
acetic acid markets. According to data, spot pricing in China was at
$370-390/mt FOB China. European free-delivered prices were Eur1,000/mt
FED NWE ($1,069/mt).

Exclusive market movement data, shipping lineups, demand signals and pricing rationale continue in full report.
