In the week ending August 10, muted trade
dominated the European linear low density polyethylene markets. Holidays and a
poor economic outlook had weighed down demand. Many end-users, sellers,
and converters remained absent from the European market due to August holidays,
especially in the south. Inflationary and
macroeconomic pressures, as well as the threat of a recession, further dampened
buying interest. End-users also felt a lot more anxious about the potential for
a rebound in purchasing activity after their August vacations. A trader stated that there was no increase in demand, but
that everyone expects September to pick up. Some sellers offered material at very competitive rates to
fill warehouses. However, converters remained operational and continued to
operate hand-to-mouth despite limited downstream buying...
