The steady prices of US toluene, mixed
xylenes, and US toluene were accompanied by rising bids on Sept. 12, due in
part to the strong value for octane along the US Gulf Coast. US FOB toluene mix values
increased last week, from 96.91c/gal on September 2 to 116.79c/gal on September
9. The US FOB mixed-xylenes blend value
increased by approximately 20 cents last week. Sources explained that toluene/xylenes are gasoline
additives that increase octane. This could mean that blend and bid values may
be increasing due to unusually high octane levels. Higher energy costs in Europe are increasing pressure on
