Asian Paraxylene prices slide due to weaker upstream /Downstream polyester activity slows /Japan's Idemitsu closes a PX plant

The price of paraxylene in Asia fell by $15/mt per day, to $836.67/mt F.R. Taiwan/China on July 11, 2011. Prices fell along with lower crude oil prices. Slowing polyester production in China added to the pressure. At the Asian close on July 11, the September ICE Brent futures for front-month fell by $1.05/b per day to $68.96/b. According to a producer in Asia, the drop in polyester activity was due to a weakening demand for fibers. A producer in Asia also stated that July and August tend to be weaker months for polyester, leading lower interest. Sources said that there is little upward movement in PX prices, at least for the short term. A company source confirmed that Idemitsu, of Japan, had shut down its 210,000 mt/year line in Tokuyama...
