Asian Paraxylene: Prices drop amid weak downstream polyester demand Spreads for May/June fluctuate / China American Petrochemical Co. restarts PTA Line

Prices of Asian paraxylene fell on March 28, amid concerns over a weakening demand for polyester in China. Asian paraxylene was up $2/mt per day on March 28, to $849.33/mt F.R. Taiwan/China. The traders reported that higher upstream crude oil prices didn't provide much support for PX prices, as new concerns about possible cuts in downstream Chinese polyethylene production looked ominous. Commodity Insights data showed that the May-June spreads were quite volatile in recent days. The data revealed that at the Asian close on March 28, the intermonth May-June spread was assessed as minus $4/mt.
