Asian Paraxylene prices rise despite low activity / Limited activity observed day to day / May ACP fails

Prices of Asian paraxylene rose slightly on the backs of higher crude oil prices. Market activity in China was low due to holidays. Asian paraxylene prices are up $2.66/mt per day, to $748.33/mt at Taiwan/China on May 2. Sources said that due to holidays in China, Japan and other countries, there was little trade activity during the day. A trader in Singapore stated that, prior to the holidays in China, downstream polyester activity was still strong, but there were few other factors which could have impacted PX spot price. A trader in Singapore said that the strong demand for purified terephthalic acids is supporting PX prices.
