Asian paraxylene prices rose $6/mt day over day to $839.33/ mt CFR Taiwan/China on July 18, driven by sentiment on potential supply disruption and stronger crude. The gain was largely attributed to market reaction following a technical issue at China’s Shenghong Petrochemical refinery on July 16. According to a source close to the company, the refinery is gradually lowering operating rates at its reformer and crude distillation unit, impacting PX output by an estimated 20,000- 30,000 mt. However, several market participants believe the supply impact may be limited, as Shenghong has reportedly secured external mixed xylene feedstock to sustain PX production.
