On Sept. 14, the outlook for Asian
paraxylene markets was largely mixed as traders were looking forward to
fourth-quarter trade activity. The
market was largely dominated by the lean production of a few producers in
Northeast Asia and South Asia. There were also wider expectations that the
landscape would not change in the near future due to economics. The October Asian-origin cargo was traded at $1.171-2.500/mt
on the Market on Close process. This is $1,168-1,200/mt on open source
equivalent. However, the November lay can still be well below $1,100-1,130/mt. The October/November spread structure was expanded to plus
$65-70/mt backwardation with an offer in November. This suggests that the
