Asian paraxylene: Dips 2/mt amid mixed moves in related
markets■ PX-MX spread shrinks■ Mixed views for Sep demand outlookAsian paraxylene fell $2/mt on Sept. 2,
amid an increase in upstream naphtha, and a sharp fall of China's PTA Futures.
The week ended at $1,036.67/mt CFR China. This is down $32.66/mt week-on-week. The upstream C+F Japan
naphtha price rose $21/mt on the day to $670/mt. This squeezed the
paraxylene/naphtha spread at $366.67/mt which is a decrease of $33.16/mt per
week. CFR Taiwan/China paraxylene was $67.67/mt.
This is down $20.16/mt week-on-week, which makes it less profitable to increase
rates for non-integrated producers. Sources
said that the market has seen little liquidity in physical and derivatives
markets, partly due to volatility in the energy market. Although paraxylene inventories remained low, tightness is
