Asian Paraxylene: Prices ease as early signs of market stabilization emerge / ICE Brent crude down 21 cents/b / PX Sep-Oct spread at $6.50/mt

Asian paraxylene prices slipped $1.34/mt day over day at $834.33/mt CFR Taiwan/China July 16. The spot market showed signs of stabilizing, with discussions shifting toward laycans for first-half, second-half September and H1 October, a trader said. A bearish crude oil complex continued to weigh, with front month ICE September Brent futures edging down 21 cents/b to $68.58/b at the Asia close. On the supply front, the Asian PX market was tight due to ongoing plant turnarounds and shutdowns. the September-October intermonth spread at plus $6.50/mt at the July 16 close, reflecting a back wardated structure. The PX naphtha spread was assessed at $253/mt. The Asian PX Market on Close assessment process July 16 saw bids and offers for cargoes to be delivered over September and October.
