Asian Orthoxylene Prices: Stable to Lower amid Cautious Outlook Short-term OX shortage in India and Pakistan / Sluggish Chinese demand

On March 28, orthoxylene was down $1/mt from the previous week to $980/mt at FOB Korea, but stable at 925/mt at CFR China and at $935/mt at CFR Southeast Asia. FOB Korea offered a maximum of $1,000/mt, which made market participants cautious. A market source stated that the price of OX was typically lower than paraxylene, but is now higher by about $140/mt. The economic slowdown has affected downstream products such as PX and benzene, which have generally performed poorly. OX prices were supported by the demand from India. This is especially true now that Reliance Industries has gone offline. OX was in short supply, especially in India, Pakistan, and Europe. These countries are major OX consumers.
