Asian Orthoxylene: Falling on slow momentum and lower xylene Prices / Participants remain on the sidelines / China exported 26,862 mt OX in May

The upward trend in Asian orthoxylene reversed the week ending on June 27, as crude oil prices plunged. Asian orthoxylene prices were $10-$15/mt down week over week, at $885/mt for FOB Korea, and $875/mt for CFR China due to lower feedstock costs and a lackluster demand. Sinopec, China's biggest OX producer, maintained its listed price at Yuan 7000/mt week over week. This helped to support domestic OX prices. Discussions were relatively quiet despite indications that FOB China was close to $880-$900/mt. This is due to a large buy-sell difference. According to local sources, China's industry-wide OX operating rate was 73.21% in the week ending on June 27. The downstream OX-based PA was reported at around 66.77%.
