- October-November RBOB Backwardates- RBOB gasoline futures fall further

The components market was
affected by weakness in RBOB gasoline futures, which led to a further drop in
US MTBE prices. FOB
US Gulf Coast MTBE was 4.55 Cents lower at 293.53 cents/gal on Sept. 1, with the price
close to its lowest point of 287.05c/gal in February. The NYMEX gasoline futures markets began the month with a
modest backwardation of 4.76 Cents/gal. October RBOB moved to 238.53 and
November RBOB was at 233.77, indicating less bullishness in the future. As no MTBE materials were fixed, Mexico's demand was showing
signs of softening. South American countries also showed similar trends. Despite the decline in RBOB, participants were mixed on
whether there was more sluggishness ahead.
