Due to low demand, spot cargo discussions
in the Asian Styrene Market were limited on Aug. 25, due to a lack of interest. Sources said that
operating rates in Northeast Asia averaged 70% and no ramp-ups were planned
immediately due to weak September demand. Styrene
producers anticipate stronger demand for the product in October and November,
due to the usual higher use of the product over the same period. Styrene prices are volatile due to oil price movements. CFR China styrene monomer as low at $1,003/mt Aug. Although the price rose $77/mt to $1.080/mt Aug. 25, it was
still $5/mt lower on the day. The Chinese
