Sources said that the Northwest European
naphtha market was stronger than expected on Oct. 31, despite solid
fundamentals and gasoline-blending demand supporting weak petrochemical
cracking production across Europe. According
to trading sources, maintenance work at BP's Rotterdam refining plant had been
completed in large part. The work began in
September and was expected to continue until October. The Asia naphtha market was bearish because of a grim
outlook for petrochemicals up to 2022. However, there was some demand from
South Korean end users for heavier, splitter feed naphtha grades. Two tenders
were issued on the day, according to market sources. Crude prices dropped relative to naphtha on the paper
