Dec. 21 saw a subdued demand in Europe's
naphtha market. The price structure contango meant that buying activity was
limited to the European market. A
source said that there should be some stocking due to the contango but they
don't see anyone very concerned about stock levels. "I haven't seen any indication of a rise in demand from
European crackers in January." Sources
said that crackers were still operating at 65%-70% of their capacity as of Dec.
21. They said that the demand for naphtha
in gasoline blending had not returned, but it was still providing some support
to market. A second source stated that
while gasoline demand is high, the spread of 'gas-nap [gasoline] is still in
the $100-120/mt area while...
