Sources said that Naphtha was the preferred
petrochemical fuelstock because propane prices rose, making it more affordable. CIF NWE naphtha swap premium was $64.50-69.65/mt
Nov. 28 compared to equivalent propane swap. This is down $6.75/mt and
significantly below $100/mt as propane becomes more affordable. Despite
this naphtha advantage, overall cracker demand remained low due to the European
petrochemical sector continuing to be in turmoil with high energy prices and
weak demand. Sources said that stocks were high in this
environment, which meant that there was no return of petrochemical buyers. A source
said that crackers are long polymers, and they wanted to lower rates in order
