On Nov. 17, the premium for mixed xylenes
was 33 cents, down from 45 cents which had been in place Nov. 4. The November NGT was stable at 426c/gal on the
day, while MX dropped 12 cents to 459c/gal on the same day. When asked
about the reason for the wide spread in prices, a market source stated Nov. 17
that MX shouldn't have been so high. NGT and MX
were under pressure by gasoline blending demand. An excess of
naphtha was re-mixed into gasoline, creating the need for low RVP boosters. A second
market source stated that the naphtha length was not complete. He explained
that the surplus was partly due to weak downstream demand...
