The European MTBE spot price started the
week lower on Sept. 5. This was due to a lack of demand despite upstream energy
gains. The European MTBE spot price dropped
$32.25-38.50/mt to $1,019.75-1,040.50/mt FOB ARA on the day. This is below the
most competitive offer during the Market on Close assessment process. During the
MOC process, three more outstanding offers were made. The premium
MTBE received over the October EBOB swap fell by $42-47/mt on a day to $224.25-235.50/mt in September. Asia saw MTBE prices rise by $13.26-18.50/mt to
$948.01-970.50/mt FOB Singapore compared to the previous day. This was due to a
stronger energy complex. ETBE prices dropped to $1,050-1,080/mt
FOB Ar Sept. 5, following related markets. However, the premium over MTBE
remained steady...
