On July 12, the spot European
methyl-tertiary butyl ether prices fell again due to selling activity in the
declining energy sector. European MTBE flat prices were down
$118.75-140.50/mt on July 11, to $1,383-1,400/mt FOB ARA. There were three
outstanding offers during the Market on Close assessment process, each for
1,000 mt at the tested level of $1,384-1,400/mt. An earlier
deal was made during the MOC process for 1,000 mt. The MTBE
premium was also reduced by $58.75-63.50/mt over the EBOB FOBAR M1 swap. A source
claimed that European MTBE demand remained strong despite the tapering of
gasoline-naphtha spread. The spread between front-month
gasoline and front-month naphtha fell by $26.25-30.50/mt over the previous day
