Asian MTBE: $8/mt rises on higher gasoline and 92 RON crack / There was very little discussion throughout the week / S Korean Hyundai Oilbank increases runs at new facility

Asian MTBE rose $8/mt on the day to $788/mt FOB Singapore Dec 17, amid a rebound of 92 RON, and a higher 92 RON cracked. Active profit taking led to a 0.19% drop in the front-month ICE Brent crude oil futures, which fell to $74.43/b at 4:30pm Singapore time (0830 GMT). Despite the year-end trading lull, the MTBE spot market discussion remained quiet throughout the week. According to reports, Hyundai Oilbank, a South Korean refiner, has increased production at its Daesan 200,000 mt/year MTBE facility to 80%. The plant was operational since December, and is expected to be fully functional by the end of 2018. This complex is a joint venture project worth $2.4 billion between Hyundai Oilbank & Lotte Chemical. According to market sources, South Korea's total MTBE production capacity will reach 1.7 million mt/year...
