Trades in Asian ethylene markets were limited
Jan. 3 due to holiday absences. The
majority of buyers seemed to have enough coverage for January. However, buying
interest for January's second half was low due to the Lunar New Year holidays.
This could lead to some downstream facilities being shut down. Participants
said that discussions for February were still in the early stages due to weak
derivative demand. Sources said that talk of a major manufacturer's
potential new naphtha-fed steam crackeder in China could increase availability
in February and add to the supply pressure. The
benchmark C+F Japan naphtha marker, which was $665/mt on January 3, at the
Asian close, was up $16.25/mt. The spread for ethylene-naphtha was
calculated at $205-220/mt....
