Middle East exports to Europe | Styrene spread expands to $168-190/mt

- Middle East exports to Europe- Styrene spread expands to
$168-190/mt

European benzene prices fell on July 4.
Import volumes from the Middle East were expected due to a strong European
premium versus Asian prices. With the expectation of rising
supply, the five- to 30-day forward delivery lay could fall from $87.50-92.50/mt
down to $1,653-1,700/mt. There was a strong backwardation in August and
September. Prices of styrene rose due to a widening spread
over feedstock, benzene. The spread increased to $168-190/mt
during the day. This spread was still below the $250-270/mt
spread, which is often cited by traders as a healthy margin in the Styrene
market before energy price rises this year. It also remains well below the
approximately $400-420/mt spread due to rising natural gas prices.
