Chinese methanol prices
remained stable on Jan. 4, but there could be upsides from recent shutdowns of
methanol plant in Iran. The
Indian methanol market continued its upward trend on the back of limited
supply. Sabalan Petrochemical Co., an Iranian methanol producer, closed its
1.65 million mt/year Assaluyeh plant on Jan. 4. According to company marketing agents, Jan. 4 was due to a
shortage in feedstock natural gas. According
to one party, bids for a January loading cargo at $325-340/mt failed to
materialize as the cargo received better netbacks from Southeast Asia. Methanol produced in Algeria does not comply with IMPCA
