Asian Methanol prices slip due to weak fundamentals / Ample supply of methanol in SE Asia / China discussions focus on formula pricing and few fixed-price offers / Demand and supply are balanced in South Korea and Taiwan

Asian methanol fell on the 23rd of May due to a lackluster demand and an abundance of methanol in certain regions. CFR China methanol was down $2.50/mt from the previous day to $255.50/mt. CFR Southeast Asia was down $1/mt over the same time period, at $327/mt. CFR Korea and CFR Taiwan were both down $5/mt in comparison with last week, at $332/mt each. Market sources reported that spot cargoes traded in Taicang at Yuan 2,260-2280/mt, a Yuan 20-30/mt decrease day-over-day. This was due to the healthy domestic production rate, which affected inland methanol price. Market sources say that a 40,000 mt parcel of methanol, purportedly from the Middle East, arrived in China in June. The offer was made at a premium of 2% over the ICIS Specific Origin China price....
