pressure increasesAsia methanol prices dropped for the fourth
consecutive week, July 1st, due to a longer global methanol market and healthy
production rates. There was also a patchy downstream demand. Methanol prices in Asia
fell $2-$11/mt over the week ending July 1. China's shortage of storage space for methanol led to
sellers offering methanol at prices that were unheard of since December 2013. For delivery in July, a parcel of 5,000 to 10,000 mt of the
non-sanctioned source was available at $321-340/mt CFR China. Comparatively, a cargo of similar size was offered at $330-350/mt
CFR China on June 29, which was considered competitive at that time. Although fixed-price discussions were scarce throughout the
week; formula-based discussions took place at a 1.5%-2.2%...
