India Methanol: Rises $1/mt amid stronger buying interest / Ex-tank inches higher to Rupees 23.50-24/kg / Traders eye tenders by domestic end users / Traders’ views mixed on elevated inventories

Indian methanol prices improved day over day July 18 on firmer domestic ex-tank prices and renewed buying interest for August-loading cargoes. Domestic ex-tank offers were raised from Rupees 23.25/kg to Rupees 23.50/kg. Bids were heard at Rupees 23.25/kg. Some deals were heard at Rupees 23.50/kg at Kandla and Mumbai port. Hazira ex-tank offers were heard at Rupees 23.75-24/kg. “People are cutting down on losses. Even at Rupees 23.50/kg, the replacement cost is not matched,” an importer said. Several domestic buy tenders were released in the week that ended July 18. About 10,000 mt was heard traded to a Gujarat based chloroform producer at Rupees 24.7/kg, on a delivered basis, for August delivery on 45 days credit terms.
