Asian Methanol prices drop $39.25/mt due to selling activity / Thin Trading in China due the Dragon Boat Festival holiday / Plant failures in SE Asia cap the downside / S Korea Market Fundamentals Balanced

Asian methanol closed the week lower due to a sluggish market. CFR Korea methanol, however, saw a sharpest drop week-over-week of $39.25/mt. On May 30, a trader offered a 5,000 mt Middle East cargo of non-sanctioned source at $305/mt for delivery in South Korean ports between June 15-25. A similar cargo was then offered at $300/mt for delivery from July 1-15. The trader's offers gradually decreased until they reached $295/mt CFR Korea, for arrivals between June 19-30 and $290/mt CFR Korea, for deliveries over the period of July 1-9. CFR Korea methanol was $39.25/mt cheaper week-over-week at $292.75/mt in May 30. The market sources believe that Middle East sellers have a surplus of cargoes, now that the price of T2 methanol FOB Rotterdam has dropped from $450-457/mt at the beginning...
