Asian methanol market saw little trading activity over the week ending February
24, but the Indian market saw demand for March cargoes. Chinese domestic
prices ended at Yuan 60/mt higher February 24 than Feb. 17, due to a coal
mining accident that occurred in Inner Mongolia. Also, a decrease in coastal
methanol inventories supported Chinese methanol futures. CFR China
methanol rose 50 cents/mt on a day, and $2/mt weekly on week to $325.50/mt
February 24. Demand for March spot cargoes in Southeast Asia was
slow. Market sources say that there has been no recovery after the Lunar
New Year, and market sources point to an uncertain economic outlook as Ramadan
