Asian methanol prices closed the week lower amid renewed supply from Iran and weak downstream demand from acetic acid, formaldehyde and solvents sectors. Iranian methanol supply to China in August and September was heard to be more than 400,000 mt, with recent tenders closed at a 1% premium to CFR China formula price. Coastal methanol in East and South China rose 9.92% on week to 790,200 mt on Wednesday July 16, data from Longzhong Information Services showed. Discussions for spot cargoes were sporadic throughout the week and ranged from $266-$275/mt CFR China. CFR China methanol down $4/mt day over day at $269.50/mt and CFR Southeast Asia methanol $3/mt lower over the same period at $330/mt on July 18.
