China port inventories rise 14.16% week after reaching 64.41 million mt | Some traders are still bearish about the outlook for the methanol market

Asian methanol prices, CFR China edged up
$1-2/mt due to some restocking requirements providing support for the battered
markets. The February ICE Brent crude oils futures contract was up $1.44/b
compared to the previous Asian close of $81.98/b at 0830 GMT. China's port inventories reached 64.41 million
mt, an increase of 14.16% over the previous week. According
to a Chinese trader, many of the methanol cargoes that were booked earlier
arrived at eastern China's main ports earlier this week. This explains the
increase in port inventories. There is no room for prices to rise. A Southeast
Asia methanol trader stated that the methanol market would be dead by next week...
