The South Asian polyethylene market continued to further gain strength amid thin availability and limited shipping routes in the week ended July 29. According to market sources, while Khor Fakkan and Fujairah port remained away from the trouble areas, these ports were facing long backlogs, and it was impossible to ship material promptly from there, making delivery lead time unclear. One Middle Eastern producer was heard to have offered some material through Singapore and Jeddah port. However, one trader said that buying ideas were limited as the lead times were still not guaranteed. Long and unclear shipping times remained a major concern to a majority of the market, with some traders also commenting that inventories were extremely short, even with domestic producers, and open market prices were significantly higher.
