Sources indicated that Asian monoethylene
glycol prices dropped Nov. 17 in response to drops in crude oil prices and
weaker opinions on polyester demand during the typical lull-season. January ICE Brent crude oil futures dropped
$1.17/b to $92.75/b by 4:30pm Singapore time (0830 GMT Nov. 17). The bearish
sentiment was exacerbated by weak downstream polyester markets. Several sources
claim that plants will shut down in December to prepare for the Lunar New Year
holiday. This would have an impact on MEG trade. The market is
still oversupplied and downstream demand will continue to decline. It is normal
for end-product manufacturing not to close down as this is the lull period and
