The Asian ethylene market prices fell on
September 29 due to a bearish downstream outlook. According to market
participants, there were ongoing discussions about deepsea cargoes. However,
buying ideas for H2 November arrivals fell below $850-870/mt. According to market participants, however, trade is likely
to slow down due to the long holiday in China on October 1. The support for ethylene was assessed as weak due to the fact
that operating rates at naphtha-fed steam crackers will be raised in October
and an influx of deepsea cargoes mainly from the US. The benchmark C+F Japan naphtha marker, which was $664-680/mt
at Sept. 29 Asian closing, was up $17-23/mt. The spread for ethylene-naphtha was $186-200/mt. This is
