On May 17, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene
fell $3/mt from day to day, falling to $883.50/mt at FOB Korea; $906.50/mt at
CFR Unv1; and $908/mt at CFR China. This was due in part to weaker markets
upstream. In Asian trade, July ICE Brent crude
futures dropped 99 cents/barrel at $84.46/b. Paraxylene,
on the other hand, rose by $7/mt, to $969/mt, CFR Unv1/China, in downstream
markets. It is possible that the market was less active
than normal due to an industry conference in India. Sources on
the market also reported that some demand was emerging for blendstocks such as
toluene which is currently trading at a lower price than isomer MX after a US
