As participants prepare for the year-end,
trading activity on Europe's polypropylene markets was low in the week leading
up to Dec. 21. As converters tried to maintain low
stock levels as they shut down their plants for the holidays, demand dwindled. Sources said
December's end-consumer demand was weak due to low inflation and recessions in
Europe. There were still some consumers looking for
bargains in the low-priced environment. Import offers were particularly
competitive. A producer stated that the market was at a
complete standstill and that nothing is really happening. The supply
side was plentiful with plenty of stock in sellers' warehouses. Participants
in the contract market were looking to close their contracts for the next year. As the
outlook for 2023 was clouded by high inflation...
