Asian MTBE was valued at $7-$8/mt
higher than the previous day, $882-$897/mt FOB Singapore. This was due to
higher crude oil futures and firmer gasoline cracks. The RON92 FOB Singapore
gasoline crack to the ICE Brent crude oil futures increased $0.53-$1.78/barrel
to negative $0.95-$2.90/b, as compared to negative 1.48/b the previous day. According to a source close, South Korean LG Chemical plans
to keep its 190,000 mt/year MTBE facility in Daesan running at 70% capacity
through the end of the year. Since the
beginning of the year, the plant has had reduced operating rates due to a
shortage of feedstock. This was due to low steam cracker operating rates and
poor margins for downstream products. The
