producers slow to accept offersLow density polyethylene from Asia rose largely in
the week ending Nov. 30, despite slightly higher inventories and
discussions. As high electricity prices forced many European converters to
close, some Asian converters hoped to take advantage of the demand for finished
plastic products in Europe. According to traders, Europe continues to
experience weak demand. No new capacity is expected in 2023. Existing
capacities are still plagued by reliability and age issues. Europe is
expected to have 2.5 million mt/year less PE in 2023 than it did in 2018, which
is roughly the same as last year. The global economy is still weak.
