The strength of crude oil prices and
downstream purified Terephthalic Acid (or PTA) futures in China led to Asian
paraxylene moving higher in the week beginning July 18. The CFR Unv1/China marker rose $20.41-25.50/mt
between July 15 and $1,041.33-1,080.50/mt on July 18, as the layers can be rolled
over to account for the average of H2 September, first-half September, and H1
October lay cans. The September ICE Brent crude oil futures rose
$4.46-5.50/b on July 18 at 0830 Asian time. This was due to investors weighing
Europe's vulnerability to oil supplies in the upcoming heating season as well
as Saudi Arabia's commitment to OPEC (and its allies) supply commitments. PTA futures
