The European linear low-polyethylene market
activity was muted in the week up to June 29, due to a lack of buying interest,
weak downstream demand, and fears of further price drops. Buyers were waiting for July pricing with the
European industry-settled monomer contract price settlement due June 30. Market
players anticipate that price levels will follow the monomer settlement.
Although LLDPE prices were expected to drop in the double-digits, sources are
uncertain. Sources say metallocene grades are under
pressure because of increased import availability over the past months due to
wave inflows from Asia, the Middle East, and the US. A
