Inventory pressure persists despite tariffs curbing demand / Cautious purchasing ahead of US-China Trade Talks

The Asian caprolactam price failed to maintain its position in the week ending May 8 as the ongoing tariff standoff continues to exert pressure on upstream markets and reduce downstream demand. "Prices remain influenced by lower benzene prices and crude oil, despite the recent crude oil recovery. Tariffs on consumer exports also indirectly slowed the caprolactam market. Domestic demand can't quickly replace export demand," said an informed buyer. A producer source stated that there are no favorable conditions either upstream, or downstream. Inventory pressure is still present due to the slow demand. The market is cautious in light of the US-China trade negotiations that will be held in Switzerland.
