August 10 was mixed in China's methanol
market. Some sources reported good demand while others stated that a global
economic slowdown has affected downstream demand. Furthermore, manufacturers of
finished goods are having difficulty getting inventory out of warehouses. Sources said that
Methanol-to olefins plants weren't immune to slow downstream sales. Some had
reduced operating rates and planned to temporarily stop production. Prices of Methanol in East China dropped to Yuan 90-120/mt
between Aug. 8 and Yuan 2,400-3,000/mt on August 10. This was in order to ensure
prompt deliveries. August 9th was a public
holiday in Singapore. CFR China methanol
was valued at $307-320/mt less during the same period, $6-7/mt higher than in
