India Methanol: Prices fall on talks of Iranian shipments, Diwali slowdown / Talks about fresh methanol cargo flow from Iran / Ex-tank prices ease to Rupees 36.50-37/kg / Market participants evaluate open arbitrage opportunities with India

The Indian methanol market remained the highest-priced globally for the second consecutive week on Oct. 24, easing by $2/mt day over day amid talks of fresh arrivals from Iran in the weeks ending Oct. 26 and Nov. 1. Market sources indicated that at least two ships from Iran, carrying 38,000-40,000 mt of methanol, were en route to India. “The price of the Iranian cargoes is mid-to-low $300s/mt, hence domestic prices could correct once these cargoes land at ports,” a trader said. Ex-tank Kandla and Mumbai discussions softened slightly, with offers heard in the range of Rupees 36.50-37/kg, equivalent to approximately $375-$380/mt on an import parity basis, according to a market source.
