Asian styrene monomer was $7/mt less at $1,117.50/mt
China Feb. 22. This is in line with lower crude oils and upstream benzene
costs. The Brent futures contract for April
was down $1.36/b at 0830 GMT, while the CFR China marker of benzene ended session
$5/mt higher at $956.50/mt. "Recently it seems that the sentiment for
SM seems closely to follow that of crude oils," a source stated. It's
difficult to say that SM has clearly improved. Market talk
about higher crude oil prices by the end this year could explain this week's
movement. Earlier in the week, SM prices rose $26/mt,
$15/mt for the CFR China marker, respectively. It is difficult to
forecast SM. Prices have been volatile lately. Benzene
prices have been volatileb> /b>lately. A persistent
