US polyethylene-terephthalate producers
expressed hope that China's continued economic recovery would support domestic
resin markets. According to International Trade
Commission data, 41.4% of 2022 US PET exports come from Northeast and Southeast
Asia. However, the consumption of polyester yarn and fiber increased by 3.19
percentage points over the previous week to 79.63%, according to Asian market
sources. The January rates were about 65%. Alpek, a
Mexican polyester producer, stated that it plans to increase its imports from
PET feedstock paraxylene to help reduce the gap between Asia and the US. This
could also cause disruptions in the monthly contract process of PET
